Water on both sides
Elen lies in Dilsen-Stokkem, on the Belgian side of the Meuse valley: a landscape of old gravel lakes, dykes and ferries. Dutch Limburg is on the other side of the water, so you cross from one country to the other in minutes.
From flat land to woods and heath
To the west the Meuse valley runs into the woods and heath of the Hoge Kempen. Cycle nodes start in the village itself, so you do not have to drive the bikes anywhere first.
Towns within reach
By car it is about half an hour from Maastricht and a little over twenty minutes from Maaseik. That suits a group: during the day everyone fans out over water, villages and paths, and in the evening everyone comes back to the same address.
